1990s TAG Heuer Carrera 1964 Re-Edition
A Carrera Re-Edition with a sleek black dial, gorgeous faceted lugs, and the Lemania 1873 hand-wound movement.
Overview
Introduced in 1996, this special watch was nearly identical to the original Heuer Carrera from 1963, featuring the same 36mm polished case, pump chronograph pushers, acrylic crystal, and dial design. It marked Tag Heuer’s first time pulling directly on the design of a historical model, and the move did not go unnoticed by the watch community. Following the success of the Carrera Re-Edition, Tag Heuer went on to produce re-editions of its other storied models including the Monaco, Monza, and Autavia. Nearly thirty years after its launch, the Carrera Re-Edition remains a popular watch on the secondary market and, despite rising prices, continues to provide collectors an affordable alternative to the scarce and expensive originals.

Condition
Case: The case remains thick and sharp and shows minimal signs of wear for a piece that has been actively worn over its 25+ year life. The original brushed finishing of the case back is preserved, and the model and serial number engravings remain sharp and deep. The only notable imperfections to the case include a small scuff on the upper part of the lug at 4:30, two very small dings to the bezel at 8:30, some small scratches on the back of the lugs from strap changes, and some minor scratching and dings to the case side at 9 o’clock.
Dial, Hands, & Crystal: The dial is in perfect condition and the acrylic crystal has no major scratching with plenty of life left. The tritium shows no degradation or cracking and is turning a nice shade of yellow. When exposed to UV light, both the dials and hands briefly glow and then fade away within 1 minute.
Bracelet/Strap: The original Tag Heuer perforated leather strap is included with the watch and does show signs of wear, most notably on the second keeper where part of the leather lining has worn off.
Performance
Functions: All functions including the crown-winding, time-setting, and chronograph start/stop/reset are working as expected.
Service History: The watch just underwent a full service from D’s Time Service in San Diego that was completed on 06/10/2022.
