Overview
After its introduction in 1972, the Royal Oak remained a relatively simple watch with time only and date variants offered during the first decade of production. That all changed in the 1980s when Audemars Piguet began equipping Royal Oaks with day date and moonphase complications using the line’s new 36mm case size. This formula was expanded upon in the 1990s with dual time and annual calendar complications. Perpetual calendars, chronographs, tourbillons, and grand complications also followed, and by the end of the century it was clear that the Royal Oak was a primary outlet for the brand’s renewed focus on mechanical watchmaking.
The 25730 here was part of the first batch of dual time watches offered in the Royal Oak format, featuring a few extra goodies including a date and power reserve indicator for the JLC-based automatic movement. Even with the additions, the layout remains incredibly balanced, providing equal spacing and ample breathing room between each complication. This particular example sports a distinct matte black transitional dial with a smooth outer ring, petite tapisserie center, luminova plots, and the modern Audemars Piguet serif logo 6 o’clock. What’s more, the watch was just fully serviced by Audemars Piguet, ensuring accurate timekeeping and worry-free wear for the next owner.

Condition
Case: The stainless steel case shows normal wear in the form of a couple hairlines, tiny scratches, and micro nicks throughout. The lugs show signs of a light polish in the past, but remain thick and well defined. The bezel has great definition at the edges and is free from any notable imperfections. The caseback has a few light scratches and tiny nicks. The model and serial number engravings remain sharp and legible.
Dial, Hands, & Crystal: The matte black dial and polished hands are in excellent condition. The LumiNova across the hands and dial functions and glows consistently with faint patina visible under a loupe and a couple micro imperfections to the lume markers at 12 o'clock. The sapphire crystal is squeaky clean and scratch-free.
Bracelet/Strap: The Audemars Piguet stainless steel bracelet exhibits minimal stretch with a few hairlines and tiny scuffs throughout. The clasp engages securely and the AP engraving is crisp and detailed.
