Overview
The Patek Philippe Calatrava has a long history dating back to 1932 when the Stern brothers, fresh off their acquisition of the manufacture, unveiled a time-only dress watch that would go on to set the standard for all others that followed—the Calatrava reference 96. The name, of course, is a nod to the brand’s usage of the medieval Calatrava Cross, an emblem of the Spanish military’s Order of Calatrava. With its simple design, modest proportions, and many configurations, the timeless style of the Calatrava continues to endure nearly a full century later.
The 5000 series of Calatravas was released in 1992 and represented an uncharacteristically sporty take on the brand’s dress line. Rendered in white, yellow, and rose gold cases throughout its production run, these watches are highlighted by straight lugs, a graphic sector dial, and an off-center small seconds display between 4 and 5 o’clock. Additionally, each watch features an exhibition caseback displaying the Geneva-sealed automatic caliber 240 PS with a 22k gold micro-rotor—the same base movement found in Patek’s celebrated ultra-thin complications.
The reference 5000G offered here is perhaps the most fascinating variant of the bunch, created for an intended partnership between Patek Philippe and Ferrari. Its layout took direct inspiration from vintage dashboard instruments by way of a high-contrast dial, condensed typography, stylized Arabic numerals, and an inverted "9." While the formal collaboration never materialized, Patek Philippe still produced a limited run of approximately 1,000 examples between 1992 and 1994. Historically rich and under-the-radar, this “Ferrari Dial” 5000G remains one of the most compelling neo-vintage anomalies in Patek's catalog.

Case has a few light scratches or nicks. Lugs are thick, full, and well-defined. Dial and hands may have imperfections visible upon close inspection. Lume is fully intact and may show slight discoloration.
Case: The white gold case shows light wear in the form of a few hairlines, small nicks, and tiny scratches present. The lugs are nice and thick with good definition at the edges. The caseback is consistent with the rest of the case and has no major imperfections. The backs of the lugs show signs of prior strap removal. The hallmarks remain sharp and legible.
Dial, Hands, & Crystal: The black dial and painted hands are in fantastic condition with no notable imperfections. The front sapphire crystal has two micro nicks near the 12 o’clock marker that are nearly invisible. The rear sapphire crystal is squeaky clean and scratch-free.
Bracelet/Strap: The Patek Philippe alligator strap is in nice overall condition with moderate staining to the leather backing and plenty of life left to give. The deployant buckle is well-preserved with only light signs of wear present. The buckle itself opens and closes securely. The brand signature and hallmarks are crisp and detailed.
