2000s Breguet Classique
A Classique with a mesmerizing silver dial, an exhibition caseback, and the Breguet 510 DR hand-wound movement.
Overview
In 1775, after years of studying watchmaking and mathematics, Abraham Louis Breguet established his own workshop in the Île de la Cité in Paris. With his focus completely dedicated to innovation in horology, Breguet went on to invent the world’s first automatic watch in 1780, patent the tourbillon complication in 1801, produce the world’s first wristwatch in 1810, and lay the groundwork for the modern chronograph in 1820. All of these accomplishments easily make him one of the most influential watchmakers in the history of horology, and his technological advancements continue to live on in the refined timepieces produced by his eponymous brand.
While the Breguet Classique reference 5907 here doesn’t bear any of the watchmaker’s most exciting complications, it does feature the brand’s distinctive elements in a discrete time-only package. The pomme creuse hands, engined-turned guilloché dial, and coin-edged case all work together to exemplify Breguet’s watchmaking ideals of precision, clarity and elegant lines. In addition, the watch is equipped with an exhibition caseback showcasing the beautifully finished 510 DR caliber, which includes a hidden indicator that allows the wearer to track the movement’s 72-hours power reserve.
There have been several other time-only references produced for the Classique line over the years, including the 3290, 3910, 5157, and 7147. However, none offer quite the feature set in such a perfect size as the 5907, making this watch a true gem to collect in any of its precious metal configurations.
