Overview

Introduced in 1988, the Omega Speedmaster Reduced (reference 3510.50) was launched as a more accessible, automatic alternative to the iconic, manual-wind Speedmaster Professional. By scaling the classic design down to 39mm and utilizing the Omega Caliber 3220—a reliable automatic movement paired with a Dubois-Dépraz chronograph module—the Reduced offered everyday practicality alongside a more modest wrist presence. After quickly establishing a dedicated following, Omega leveraged the model’s success to experiment with new dial designs and exclusive collaborations.

One such collaboration came in the late 1990s, when Omega partnered with the Marui department store in Japan to produce what some consider to be the most beautiful iteration of the Speedmaster Reduced ever made. The creamy panda dial of the reference 3510.21 Marui exhibits just the right amount of warmth, with wonderful proportions that harken back to the vintage panda dials of the Rolex Daytona and the Universal Genève Compax. It is speculated that roughly 2,000 examples were produced and sold exclusively in Marui stores for a limited period throughout the early 2000s.

Additional dials and handsets were also produced, presumably for service replacement needs. This extra supply allowed individuals with Omega parts accounts to source and sell them independently to collectors, who could then fit them onto standard 3510.50 models. Consequently, modded examples are common on the secondary market outside of Japan, meaning collectors must be diligent to confirm that any watch lacking documentation is a true factory Marui. Reassuringly, the example for sale here comes complete with its original boxes, instructions, and guarantee card stamped by the Marui City Yokohama store.

Case has only a few superficial hairlines. Lugs are thick, full, and sharp with superb finishing. Dial, hands, and lume may have micro imperfections visible only with a loupe.

Case: The stainless steel case shows almost no wear with only a couple hairlines and micro nicks present. The overall impression is super clean. The lugs are nice and thick with the superb definition at the contoured edges. The tachymeter bezel is incredibly preserved with no notable imperfections. The caseback is consistent with the rest of the case. The backs of the lugs show signs of prior bracelet removal. The hippocampus and serial number engravings remain sharp and legible.

Dial, Hands, & Crystal: The cream dial and black painted hands are in pristine condition with no notable imperfections and fully functioning LumiNova. The hesalite crystal is squeaky clean with only a couple micro hairlines visible under a loupe.

Bracelet/Strap: The Omega stainless steel bracelet is in fantastic overall condition with virtually no stretch present. There are a couple trace hairlines and faint scuffs to the polished center links, but the overall impression is very clean. The deployant clasp opens and closes securely. The raised logo and engraved model name are crisp and detailed.

Performance

Timing: The watch has been measured with a timegrapher at six different positions. The rate, amplitude, and beat error are within acceptable ranges. While resting face up, the rate is +7s/d.

Functions: The crown winding, time setting, and chronograph start/stop/reset are working as expected. The chronograph pushers provide light resistance when initially pushed, likely due to drier gasket seals, but remain functional.

Service History: Unknown.
