2003 Omega Speedmaster Reduced Marui LE
A Speedmaster with a lovely cream panda dial, a compact case, and the Omega 3220 automatic movement.
Overview
Introduced in 1988, the Omega Speedmaster Reduced (reference 3510.50) was launched as a more accessible, automatic alternative to the iconic, manual-wind Speedmaster Professional. By scaling the classic design down to 39mm and utilizing the Omega Caliber 3220—a reliable automatic movement paired with a Dubois-Dépraz chronograph module—the Reduced offered everyday practicality alongside a more modest wrist presence. After quickly establishing a dedicated following, Omega leveraged the model’s success to experiment with new dial designs and exclusive collaborations.
One such collaboration came in the late 1990s, when Omega partnered with the Marui department store in Japan to produce what some consider to be the most beautiful iteration of the Speedmaster Reduced ever made. The creamy panda dial of the reference 3510.21 Marui exhibits just the right amount of warmth, with wonderful proportions that harken back to the vintage panda dials of the Rolex Daytona and the Universal Genève Compax. It is speculated that roughly 2,000 examples were produced and sold exclusively in Marui stores for a limited period throughout the early 2000s.
Additional dials and handsets were also produced, presumably for service replacement needs. This extra supply allowed individuals with Omega parts accounts to source and sell them independently to collectors, who could then fit them onto standard 3510.50 models. Consequently, modded examples are common on the secondary market outside of Japan, meaning collectors must be diligent to confirm that any watch lacking documentation is a true factory Marui. Reassuringly, the example for sale here comes complete with its original boxes, instructions, and guarantee card stamped by the Marui City Yokohama store.
