Overview
The story of the Reverso began in the late 1920s when British officers stationed in India requested a watch that could withstand the rigors of playing polo. In response, the watchmakers at Jaeger-LeCoultre ingeniously created a hinged slide mechanism that flipped the case over to safely protect the watch face during play. While it was built to withstand the rough and tumble of the game, the design of the Reverso remained elegant and simple with decorative lines, streamlined contours, and a minimalist aesthetic.
In the early 2010s, nearly 80 years after its creation, Jaeger-LeCoultre began paying homage to the design of the 1931 Reverso through a series of Tribute models that bore the same sword hands, dart indices, and simple “Reverso” branding as the original. While the initial Tribute models opted for the monoface casing, the brand eventually released this Grande Reverso Ultra Thin 1931 Duoface containing a white opaline dial for tracking the time at home, and a Clous de Paris black dial on the reverse side for tracking the local time while away. In addition to giving the wearer a choice between the two different dials, the 1931 Duoface lives up to its Ultra Thin moniker with a discreet 9.3mm case that allows it to seamlessly slide under any jetsetter’s sleeve.

Condition
Case: The stainless steel case is in near-mint condition with only faint hairlines and a couple micro nicks visible on close inspection. The lugs are nice and thick and retain excellent contouring. The reverse side of the case is equally as clean with practically no signs of wear. The brushed finishing of the caseback is well-preserved. The model and serial number engravings remain sharp and deep.
Dial, Hands, & Crystal: The silver and black dials and polished handsets are in fantastic condition with no signs of deterioration. The Super-LumiNova of the black reverse dial is fully functioning. Both sapphire crystals are scratch-free. On the underside of the reverse dial's crystal is a faint smudge between 3 and 4 o'clock and a couple tiny specs of dust that are visible on close inspection. These should be easily removable during the next service.
Bracelet/Strap: Both JLC alligator straps show light signs of wear and are free from any staining, chipping, or fraying. The buckle is nice and clean and the engraved JLC logo remains crisp and detailed.
