Overview

Introduced in 1988, the Omega Speedmaster Reduced (reference 3510.50) was launched as a more accessible, automatic alternative to the iconic, manual-wind Speedmaster Professional. By scaling the classic design down to 39mm and utilizing the Omega Caliber 3220—a reliable automatic movement paired with a Dubois-Dépraz chronograph module—the Reduced offered everyday practicality alongside a more modest wrist presence. After quickly establishing a dedicated following, Omega leveraged the model’s success to experiment with new dial designs and limited releases.

One such example came in the early 2000s, when Omega released the Speedmaster Reduced reference 3510.52 exclusively for the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM). Featuring a clean reverse panda dial with silver registers, this special model catered to local collector interest in mechanical chronographs with vintage racing aesthetics. In this case, the 3510.52 was reminiscent of the iconic Rolex 6263, but at a fraction of the price. Given the limited regional production, it is speculated that less than two thousand examples were ever made and sold.

Additional dials and handsets were also produced, presumably for service replacement needs. This extra supply allowed individuals with Omega parts accounts to source and sell them independently to collectors, who could then fit them onto standard 3510.50 models. Consequently, modded examples are common on the secondary market outside of Japan, meaning collectors must be diligent to confirm that any watch lacking documentation is a true factory Japan LE. Reassuringly, the serial number of the example here has been verified by a well-regarded Omega qualified watchmaker to correspond to the reference 3510.52.

Excellent
:
Case has very light scratches or nicks. Lugs are thick, full, and well-defined. Dial and hands may have imperfections visible upon close inspection. Lume is fully intact and may show slight discoloration.

Case: The stainless steel case shows light wear in the form of a few hairlines, faint scratches, and small nicks. The overall impression is clean. The lugs are nice and thick with the excellent definition at the contoured edges. The tachymeter bezel is well preserved with no notable imperfections. The caseback is consistent with the rest of the case. The backs of the lugs show signs of prior bracelet removal. The hippocampus and serial number engravings remain sharp and legible.

Dial, Hands, & Crystal: The matte black dial and painted hands are in fantastic condition with fully functioning Super-LumiNova and no notable imperfections. The hesalite crystal shows a couple of hairlines and a faint scuff at 5:30, all of which can easily be resolved with PolyWatch.

Bracelet/Strap: The Omega stainless steel bracelet is in excellent condition with little-to-no stretch and nicely preserved finishing. The polished center links show some hairlines and tiny scuffs, and the clasp has some light desk diving marks. The clasp opens and closes securely. The raised Omega logo and Speedmaster engraving remain crisp and detailed.
